Des échantillons d?eau ont été prélevés à cinq endroits: dans la rivière des Mille-Îles, dans le fleuve Saint-Laurent, dans les deux collecteurs d?eaux usées menant à l?usine d?épuration montréalaise et à la sortie de l?usine. Un seul composé a été détecté dans l?eau du Saint-Laurent, l?estradiol, une hormone naturelle liée au développement des caractères sexuels secondaires chez la femme. Le taux atteignait 8 ng/l mais grimpait à près de 126 à l?entrée de l?usine d?épuration. Les rejets de l?usine en contenaient encore 90 ng/l, c?est-à-dire 74 % de la teneur mesurée dans les eaux usées.

He also stresses that 80 to 90 percent of antidepressant s remain in the water after treatment. These molecules can have a variety of effects on aquatic wildlife. Again, ozone treatment could destroy these molecules.

• Hormone modulation: a novel therapeutic approach for women with severe mental illness [Aust N Z J Psychiatry. 2008 Jan;42(1):83-8 .]: Three case reports are presented: in each case the woman selected had participated in large, double-blind, randomized controlled trials exploring hormone modulation. Case study 1 presents a premenopausal woman with schizophrenia, who received an 8 week trial of daily adjunctive 200 µg transdermal oestradiol. Case study 2 presents a postmenopausal woman with schizophrenia on a 12 week trial of adjunctive raloxifene hydrochloride 120 mg per day-1. Case study 3 presents a woman with schizoaffectiv e disorder, in the manic phase, who received tamoxifen 40 mg per day-1 for 28 days.
