- Topical Betamethasone "Highly Efficacious" for Treatment of Phimosis: Young boys with phimosis respond well to topical betamethasone and adverse effects are rare and mild. The prepuce can be easily retracted after 21 days of treatment in the vast majority of cases, urologists at the Cleveland (Ohio) Clinic report. Drs. Lane S. and Jeffrey S. Palmer compared two topical betamethasone regimens in 200 consecutive boys with prepuces that were unretractable, such that the meatus could not be evaluated.
